The UPLB Learning Resource Center (LRC) conducted an orientation for its new and continuing tutors under the Promoting Excellence through Educational Review (PEER) program and student assistants (SAs) on February 1, 2025, at the LRC Office.

LRC Director Mariyel Hiyas C. Liwanag welcomed the new pool of LRC student partners for the second semester of the Academic Year 2024-2025. She acknowledged their dedication and commitment to serving the student body through various LRC programs and services.

University Research Associate Joshua Michael G. Jonas provided an overview of the 12 programs and services regularly conducted by LRC to support its mandates. He emphasized the invaluable contributions of both PEER tutors and SAs in ensuring the success of LRC initiatives, including, but not limited to, the Together Everyone Achieves More (TEAM) Learning Sessions, Bridge Program, and Animal-Assisted Education Program.

As tutorials coordinator, he also discussed the PEER Tutorials’ essential guidelines on scheduling, reservations, tutorial venues, subject coverage, and training sessions.

LRC’s 35 continuing and 11 new PEER tutors assist their fellow UPLB students in studying for and reviewing challenging topics in mathematics and engineeringbiology and forestrychemistryagriculture and economicsphysics, statistics, and computer science.

Junior Office Assistant Jennina Marie M. Mora outlined the social media pillars that SAs are expected to help develop, namely: Self-Care Sunday, Focus Monday, Brain Boost Tuesday, Humor Wednesday, Instagrammar/Wikaalaman Thursday, Study Tips Friday, and Fun Saturday.

She encouraged the 10 continuing and 3 new SAs to enhance their technical, creative, and clerical skills and embody professionalism in conducting LRC activities.

Additionally, Jonas discussed the importance of adhering to the UP Visual Identity Guidebook when creating content using the university’s logo, colors, typeface, and other templates.

PEER Tutors and SAs are hired through the university’s Special University Performers Student Assistantship (SUPSA) and Student Assistantship and Graduate Assistantship (SAGA) programs to support the implementation of LRC’s year-round activities.

Beyond financial compensation, LRC student partners also receive training to develop their professional skills and foster personal growth. These training sessions cover effective peer teaching strategies, psychological first aid, graphic design fundamentals, leadership, and essential work ethics.
