More students have signed up to become tutors to their fellow students under the UPLB Learning Resource Center’s (LRC) PEER Tutorials Program.

LRC welcomed nine more students who wanted to be part of the Center’s pool of tutors under the Promoting Excellence through Educational Review or PEER Tutorials Program. This brought the total number of PEER tutors to 53.

The new tutors are Alezandra Patriz Aragon, BS Agricultural Biotechnology; JB Balines (BS Statistics); John Yves Baltazar and Dan Victor Gapaz (BS Computer Science); Julienne Mae Calara (BS Agricultural Chemistry); Tracy Joy Edra (BS Forestry); Mary Fajilan (BS Chemistry); Beverly Landig (BS Agricultural and Applied Economics); and Alesandra Nicole Robes (BS Nutrition). They finished an online orientation via virtual conferencing on February 1, 2024.

The PEER Tutorials Program fosters collaborative learning amongst UPLB students by allowing tutors to share their expertise and help their fellow students review their subjects.

The tutorial sessions serve as a learning opportunity for the tutors, especially aspiring teachers, to hone their communication and social skills. It also helps reinforce the tutors’ knowledge of various subject matters.

As part of the screening, candidate tutors must have exemplary performance in the subjects they aspire to teach in the program.

The PEER Tutorials Program is a component of the Center’s TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) Learning Sessions.

The tutors are hired under the Special University Performers’ Student Assistantship (SUPSA) program of the Office of Scholarships and Grants.

The program offers mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, statistics, economics, agriculture, engineering, computer science, nutrition, and human ecology courses.

LRC announced the tutorial sessions for the second semester AY 2023-2024 on February 26 through a series of publicity materials posted on the Center’s Facebook Page.

The tutorials are clustered into four groups: Cluster 1 for mathematics and engineering courses; Cluster 2 for biology and forestry courses; Cluster 3 for chemistry courses; Cluster 4 for agriculture and economics courses; and Cluster 5 for physics, statistics, computer science, human ecology and nutrition courses.
